Purchasing a property is a life-changing decision. Even if he saw that house listed for an amazing price at 3 am, and had to place an offer by 4 am, he could have still told you about it. I bet he's been thinking about buying a house far away FOR A WHILE before going through with the purchase. So... I think it's a red glad. Consulting a partner on something like this shouldn't be optional.
