I was mostly referring to those who have endless dates and then proceed to date multiple people, creating a competition between them. Would you feel good about your date whom you've seen once, twice or more, telling you that you're in competition with a (possibly high) number of other potential partners, and the best one will get to date them? I, personally, would laugh and leave. I'm not competing with anyone. Not to mention, putting people in such a situation and proclaiming they're now in a competition doesn't seem like a nice thing to do... It's quite manipulative.

I believe that having multiple friends is great. It's not like you're saying they will have to compete for the title of your BFF. Otherwise, I'd say that is also awful and toxic.

But I'm open to other opinions, so kindly let me know if you disagree.
