This is very true. I’ve been on Medium for almost a year and had 2 articles that went somewhat viral. Both of them were published by the same publication which barely had 1k followers when my first article got traction, and now it has 4K with my second article going baby-viral a few weeks ago. It’s not about a publication at all.

I haven’t seen non-curated stories getting so many views though. So it was nice to read your article and discover that, thank you.
