You actually gave a pretty good example of why some people, regardless of their gender, choose to stay single. No one wants to be with someone who has to be put in their place. Also, when you love someone, you certainly don't want to create situations when they have to endure a conflict, experience negativity and put their partner in their place. When you love someone, you also don't step over lines, which usually means hurting them emotionally. It doesn't matter which part of what country that person is from. You either love them and act accordingly, or you don't. There are plenty of Western women, and a ton of others worldwide, who still accept this behaviour due to low self-esteem and self-worth, and also because they haven't experienced respect, love and care in healthy relationships. There are enough men who accept this too. But the good news is, less and less people do. It's surely better to be single and happy than with someone who clearly doesn't love you.
