You have an amazing dad! He's one of a kind. I'd like to think mine is too, but going to school while working and caring for your family, to help your wife is beyond the definition of a great partner.
I'd say the issue is decentering the bad examples of men. Decentering those who aren't nice people or good partners, and that can be applied to friends and family too; meaning, decentering anyone who isn't good to you, no matter what the gender is.
I haven't read that book. But I don't think people blow up their families without a reason. Either those women were very gullible, couldn't properly analyze what they read; or they had no clue what they were doing in life & never got a chance to find themselves.
