Your son’s friend has the guts I didn’t have a few years ago. I gave in. But the truth is, WHY do you have to work extra if your work is done? Why do you have to help other, slower team members? It’s one thing when a colleague needs HELP - yes, that’s why you jump in like a good teammate. But otherwise, why are you being PUNISHED for working smartly and effectively?

Employers loooove to call teams “family”. But it’s only a “family” for them when they want something extra at no pay. If you turn that concept on them and say: “hey, if we’re family, how about my family help me buy a home for my actual family by paying me the overtime I deserve by law?” - and all of a sudden, POOF! The manipulative and sleazy family propaganda is no longer applicable. It’s not a “family”, it’s an exploitation and slavery they actually refer to by trying to convince you to work for free.
